About Bookfinder
What is this?
Bookfinder tells you where you can borrow or buy a digital copy of a book right now — across the services you already subscribe to or have access to for free.
It’s not a store. It doesn’t sell books. It doesn’t help you find used or new physical copies. There are great sites for that already. Bookfinder is only about digital formats: audiobooks and ebooks, borrowed for free through your library or purchased directly from a service.
How it works
Type a title (and optionally an author). Bookfinder searches across multiple services simultaneously and shows you what’s available:
- Free via your library — Libby and Hoopla are digital lending platforms used by thousands of public libraries. If you have a library card you likely already have access. No card? You can still see what’s available in the catalog.
- Free & open source — LibriVox has thousands of public-domain audiobooks read by volunteers, completely free.
- Purchase or subscription — if it’s not available free, Bookfinder shows where you can buy it: Audible, Libro.fm (which supports indie bookstores), Spotify, GraphicAudio, and ElevenReader.
Results come back in a few seconds. Click any result to go directly to that service. No account needed to use Bookfinder itself.
Why build this?
Finding a specific audiobook or ebook can mean checking five different apps one by one. Bookfinder does them all at once. Library collections vary a lot by title — something not on Libby might be on Hoopla or LibriVox. Knowing in 3 seconds saves you the tab-switching.
Language support
Bookfinder currently searches for English-language titles only. Results in other languages are filtered out to avoid false positives. Support for other languages is planned for a future release.
Your library preference
Type your library’s name in the library field on the search form. Bookfinder remembers it in your browser so you don’t need to re-enter it. Nothing is stored on our servers — see the Privacy Policy.
